Update on Larger Works

*Take caution that the site may not be user-friendly for all devices/screen-sizes.

Anyways, as you can see from the banner on the top, my name is JR Insular. I am currently an 18-year old senior at Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology. But despite the school that I am in, I actually want to be a sort of writer or scenario designer. However, my passion for writing has only been short-lived, only being about 1 and a half years into it as of December 2022 . Thus, I hope to make as much of proof as possible for my passion given the little time I only have left for college. Thus, I made this portfolio to showcase works and upcoming projects that I am working on.

My writing style and my overall experience is still developing but much of my inspiration for scenarios come from music, shows, and movies such as the anime community with works such as "Your Name." or "Re:Zero" and what not. Much of my writing style at the moment has been somewhat self-made but also impacted by multitude of visual novels I am currently reading and also RPGs (role-playing games) which emphasize story such as "Omori", "Undertale", or a classic VN I have read: "Ace Attorney".

I don't have much time nowadays to write given that I am constantly being bogged down by work from my school but when I do get the chance, I make my way to Google Docs and start on my writing also. I've also been working on improving my art skills (with my friend Emilia), since I feel like a mixture of both words and pictures can illicit a compelling atmosphere in which the reader can appreciate. I want to also write perhaps a musical one day or a visual novel but I would require external help for that though given I don't have much hands-on musical experience but I listen to songs on the daily and also help on programming as well. (I do have SOME coding experience but not to an actual professional level.)

Regardless of my limited time, I am absolutely determined to set out to further my writing skills. Given that I AM new to writing, I have put hours on end to spice and refine my writing and when it comes to contests, I try to do the best I can but given that I have lost multiple times despite my hard work (Ex: "Was you." in Writings section), I am still determined to bring my storytelling to new horizons and to show that while I am new, I can put enough hard work to convert my raw experience into talent, given the right amount of time.

To note, I will strive to NOT put any academic writing into this portfolio and instead, emphasize creative works done on my own accord or pushed on by school (if an academic assignment allows for a great deal of creativity, then I may put it in this portfolio).

Academic Record

Honestly, I don't like to talk about my academic record. It makes me feel like I'm being pretentious and I would rather have people talk about my OWN works or things that I'm just passionate about and not just overall performance.

But given this is a portfolio, I will provide a record below to my accomplishments and achievements in the academic setting to show my potential when it comes to work management and sheer determination when it comes to getting things done.

Again, if you're here to look at my works, you shouldn't be perusing down here but be looking at my "Writings" and "Videos" section. But if you're interested, here is my record.

I will cover first the parts that I am relatively proud to shine in front of me such as my involvement in activities to advance writing and then the typical student record like grades, accomplishments, and clubs.

NOTE:

As you can see from my note, I have been a sort of STEM-oriented student for the longest time. But quite honestly, I was doing so because of mere interest or fascination, in which there's nothing wrong with that for sure. But looking back, I didn't have an internal drive to really push myself forward into STEM or really say that I will be a STEM person in the future. I was just riding the waves of life essentially, and before hand, even disliked writing and reading. But now, the open and expanse world of storytelling, in which the limit is truly your imagination and also a field where one can place their emotions in the workplace, I felt that writing gives one a freedom rarely given in this world of strict reality, in that writing sort of gives one the tool to make an impossible or dream scenario into reality or be a form of escapism in times of despair.

It allows one to really be creative and to explore one's dream and perhaps even materialize such a theme or lesson you want others to know.

To allow one to exploit inspiration and their open imagination to their open will.

And to me, that's a powerful freedom.
